A real rockhopper at Berlin Zoological Garden, Germany
The Northern Rockhopper Penguin, Eudyptes c. moseleyi, is usually considered a subspecies of the rockhopper penguin, although fairly recent studies show evidence of distinction from the Southern Rockhopper Penguin group Eudyptes c. chrysocome/E. c. filholi.

In the Happy Feet and Happy Feet Two films, the Barry White-like love guru, Lovelace, is a Rockhopper Penguin, who will instill his wisdom for the price of rocks. Lovelace is voiced by Robin Williams.
In the book Happy Feet: Look and Find, several northern rockhopper penguins can be seen dancing as you can find closer after Mumble has returned home to Antarctica.
